![]() ![]() The Privy Garden is the former private garden of Prince Eugine, a tranquil setting spread across two terraces. Start with the Palace Gardens, which rank among the best globally, and enjoy symmetrical flower beds, perfectly trimmed hedges and vibrant grassy lawns. Come rain or shine, the Belvedere gardens are one of the most beautiful surroundings in Vienna. Don't miss the world's most extensive collection of paintings by Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.Īs well as exploring the one-of-a-kind art museum, you'll be able to wander around the scenic Belvedere Gardens when you visit. The Belvedere Museum is a world leader, home to a famous art collection with pieces spanning from the Middle Ages to today. Today, it's home to an excellent art museum, the Austrian Gallery Belvedere. The Belvedere consists of two picture-perfect Baroque palaces set in a Baroque park landscape, located on the edge of Vienna's city centre. Over 300 objects are displayed at the Hofburg museum named after her, including clothing, fans, cloves, beauty preparations and the original death certificate. She's remembered as the empress of eternal youth and beauty and was regarded as the most beautiful queen in Europe for decades. ![]() Elisabeth, nicknamed Sisi, famously struggled with royal life and sympathised with the people's struggles in Austria. Looking on the positive, this experience reminds me to check, in hotels in future, where my room is, before I leave reception. The Hofburg was once the principal imperial royal palace of the Habsburg dynasty and the winter residence when summers at Schönbrunn Palace ended. I don’t speak German, so I couldn’t follow the conversation. ![]() I hope the lady next door sorted out whatever was exercising her, as she shouted at length on the phone. It sounded like a waterfall when somebody flushed a toilet in some other room or took a shower. I hadn’t noticed this the last time I stayed, or the time before that. Internal soundproofing wasn’t great either. There was some relief, until the next group arrived. On Saturday night, just before 01:00, I had to ring reception to ask them to ask the people outside to stop shouting. People congregate out there on their return from town, laughing and shouting. There is no noise insulation from the street. But this time, I made the mistake of accepting a room at the front. It was the last time we were here, 12 years ago. It took us an hour from hotel reception to airport terminal. Good connection too (U1 to Praterstern, then change to the S7) for the airport. Good direct connection (U1) from the main station when we arrived. The bathroom is a little bit tired, but again spotless. The breakfast buffet is very good, in a nice bright dining room. So when I got back that evening, I had two pillows. She noticed that I had used the extra blanket as a second pillow. Especially the people in the breakfast room. Other than that, we had a delightful stay and highly recommend the hotel.… Next time (when we are only 2) I might load our bags into a taxi, take it to the car rental office, and head off to Melk from there. Our GPS tried to take us a different way that was barred by construction, and led us in circles. If you pick up a rental car in the city, and depart by same, note that Google routes you across the Danube Canal and back thru the congested shopping area in order to go the right way on Fleischmarkt. The a/c was turned off, and opening the windows worked well for those of us on the inside court, but for those facing the street, the night-life noise in the alley got bothersome (earplugs help). Our room and bathroom were well-maintained and comfortable. Breakfasts are still great, with a broad array of food in an elegant dining room. For the record, both Terminal 1 & 3 arrivals share the same baggage carrousel area. We had taken advantage of their transport arrangement from the airport due to our many bags and to the convenience. Reception was very responsive and helpful with our various requests prior to arrival, and greeted the 5 of us warmly. This was our 4th time here over the past 13 yrs, and they’ve kept the quality high.
